Why to use Number Range Objects in B2B Integration

Hi Experts,

Am currently working on B2B integration involving EDIFACT <-> IDOC. We are using the SAP B2B Addon SP01 and PI 7.4.

As am very new to B2B Integrations, I wanted to know -

1. What is the significance of Number Range Objects as part of B2B integrations?

2. Why we need to use them and Is it mandatory to use NRO objects for B2B integrations?

I tried checking this information in the blogs, but I see only how to use NRO objects in the B2B Add on is detailed. But I need to understand why should I use it in first instance then I can apply for my requirement.

Any assistance would be of great help.
